India should play proactive role in Myanmar: Biswas

New Delhi, Oct 13 (UNI) Senior Left leader Debabrata Biswas today said India should play a proactive role, in Myanmar, where the military regime is facing the anti-government campaign, led by detained democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi's party the National League for Democracy.

''It would seem that entire Burmese people are living in a vast prison. Aung San Suu Kyi has inspired not only her own people but the entire world with her courage and strength,'' Mr Biswas said while addressing a meeting organised by the Committee for Solidarity with Burma.

The All India Forward Bloc Leader said since the 1990 elections when Aung San Suu Kyi's party won a landslide victory, the military regime had become known for being the world's most brutal regime.

''The Junta is promoting economic stagnation and inviting international condemnation,'' he added.
