Congress member urges Centre to redress farmers grievances

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 13 (UNI) Mr Puliyur Nagarajan, Tiruchirapalli District Congress Administrative Committee member and farmers leader today urged the Union Government to fix Rs 1000 as support Price per quintal for paddy.

In a press release here, Mr Nagarajan said the Government had recently fixed support price for agricultural produces. The Economic Affairs Committee, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had fixed Rs 1000 per quintal for wheat, Rs 725 for nice paddy variety and Rs 695 for common paddy variety, he added.

He said the Government decision has disappointed the farmers.

He urged Dr Singh to take steps for redressing the grievances of farmers on the issue.
