Anti POSCO agitators detain three Koreans from POSCO India

Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (UNI) Three South Korean and an Indian officials of the POSCO India project were detained by the anti POSCO agitators from the Jatadhari river mouth this morning.

The anti POSCO agitators took all the four, including the three South Koreans holding senior posts, hostage and kept them confined in Dhinkia village.

POSCO India confirmed the detention of four of its officials who were identified as K S Choi(Senior General Manager, Construction), S H Nam(GM), T J Ahn(GM)(all from South Korea) and D Ojha(Executive).

The officials had gone to the Jatadhari river mouth to inspect the construction work of a road linking Paradip Port to the proposed Port at Jatadhari river confluence to be constructed by the South Korean steel major POSCO for its Rs 51,000 crores mega steel plant near Paradip, the largest FDI in the country.

Ever since POSCO signed the MoU with the Orissa government for setting up of the 12 million tonne steel plant in three phases,the company had been facing stiff opposition from the locals under the banner of POSCO Pratirodh Sangram Samitee. The company had signed the MoU in May 2005.

POSCO India has informed the Jagatsinghpur District Collector and the additional Superintendent of Police. Police have rushed to the village to rescue the officials.
