Admn taking steps to make Puducherry a film city

Puducherry, Oct 13: The territorial administration would take steps to make Puducherry a film city, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said here today.

Inaugurating the works for producing a documentary on poet Puduvai Sivam, Mr Rangasamy said several Tamil film producers and actors had put forward this demand to him and it would be seriously considered.

Several films were being shot on location in Puducherry, with which the administration was earning revenue and it, in turn, had helped the development of tourism here, he added.

The administration would take steps for the development of tourism after consulting tourism experts, he said, adding that private players would also be encouraged in tourism development in the Union Territory.

The Chief Minister said the administration was spending Rs one lakh to protect the heritage buildings here. The government wanted the ancient French architecture to be preserved, he added.

Mr Rangasamy said Puduvai Sivam was a poet who had written poems for Puducherry and dedicated himself for the people of the Union Territory. The documentary would help the younger generation learn about the leaders of the union Territory and also its history and heritage, he added.
