New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today indicated the possibility of a Ministerial expansion, stating that young Congress MPs would soon get to play a role in the government.

''We are going to do an exercise in government'' and young party leaders would be given a role. ''That is possible soon,'' Ms Gandhi said while interacting with a gathering at the Hindustan Times Leadership summit.

In the latest party exercise, which saw her son, Rahul Gandhi, being made AICC General Secretary in charge of frontal organisations NSUI and Youth Congress, she said assignments were given to quite a number of younger people -- MPs and non-MPs.

''As far as giving more opportunities in Parliament and perhaps government, I am absolutely determined after the exercise in the party, we are going to do an exercise in government,'' the Congress President said.

This prompted the gathering of senior journalists and captains of industry to put the question: ''Will there be a reshuffle?'' ''You should have asked the Prime Minister,'' Dr Manmohan Singh, who had inaugurated the summit earlier in the morning, Ms Gandhi said.

The Manmohan Singh government has 79 Ministers against the permissible 81, which represents 15 per cent strength of the Lok Sabha with 543 elected members.

This makes any large-scale expansion difficult unless some Ministers are dropped to make way for the younger leaders.
