Two held, arms seized in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 12 (UNI) Troops arrested two people and seized a large cache of arms and ammunition in the Kashmir valley today, a defence spokesman said.

He said troops of 5 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) busted a militant hideout and unearthed a huge haul of arms and ammunition at general area of Wusan in Ganderbal district during a search operation.

The seizure included a pistol, 25 rounds of pistol ammunition, two AK magazines, 60 rounds of AK rifle, one UBGL launcher, five UBGL grenades, four hand grenades, three rounds of rocket propelled grenades, three pressure cooker-fitted improvised explosive devices weighing 3 kg each, six electronic detonators, two kg of explosive and other administrative stores, the spokesman added.

In another incident, he said troops of 24 RR launched a search operation in general area Mamar, Srinagar following a tip-off.

During the operation, the spokesman said troops apprehended two over ground workers, identified as Aziz Thikri and Farooq Thikri.

He said both were involved in providing shelter to the wounded militants and helping them to escape from an operation launched by 24 RR on October 7, in which an ultra and a soldier were killed.
