TN CM launches additional relief project for tsunami victims

Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today launched an additional relief assistance project worth Rs 120.35 crore to benefit 40,794 tsunami-affected fishermen living in the coastal hamlets across the State.

At a function held at the State Secretariat, the Chief Minister distributed tricycles, life-saving jackets, rechargeable electric lamp and cold storage boxes to the tsunami victims.

Mr Karunanidhi also launched scheme to distribute first-aid boxes containing life-saving drugs worth Rs 9.4 crore and sports kits for cricket, volleyball, football, carrom and chess costing Rs 59.10 lakh.

State PWD and Law Minister Durai Murugan, Fisheries Minister K P P Sami and Chief Secretary L K Tripathy were also present during the function.
