IT officials continue raids at nephrologist's residence

Chennai, Oct 12 (UNI) Sleuths of Income Tax Department today raided the residence of the city-based nephrologist Dr Palani Ravichandran, arrested in connection with a kidney transplant racket.

An eight-member team, broke open the seal, they had put yesterday and searched the Mugalivakkam residence of Dr Ravichandran in the presence of his father and local body leader, police said.

In the raid, which went on till late in the evening, the IT personnel were believed to have seized several incriminating documents and medical records, pertaining to the donors of kidney transplants.

Meanwhile, the state health department also temporarily cancelled the licences of two hospitals, Dr Ravichandran used for kidney transplant.

The department is also considering recommending to the Medical Council of India a ban on Dr Ravichandran from practicing, an official said.
