IISc and Microsoft Research ink agreement for collaborative research

Bangalore, Oct 12 (UNI) Microsoft Research today inked an agreement with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here for sponsored research and collaborative agreement that aimed at accelerating scientific discovery process by increasing computational power in scientific and engineering research.

The agreement was the first of its kind for Microsoft Research to sign up with Indian scientific institute for use of advanced computing for pure science and engineering research.

Under the agreement Microsoft Research has committed to provide funding and research expertise to assist IISc with major projects around life sciences research and advanced high performance computing platforms, based on Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 for scientific applications, such as modelling of the Indian Ocean in the next two to three years.

Under the agreements the work would be take up initially to complete a framework for mapping diverse data across different levels of hierarchy in biological systems and high performance applications on Windows clusters for study of cardioac arrhythmias in mathematical models of ventricular tissue and regional ocean modeling system for the Indian Ocean.
