Geelani put under house arrest

Srinagar, Oct 12 (UNI) Chairman of breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was put under house arrest by the authorities this morning, sources said.

They added that Mr Geelani was scheduled to visit Sopore town in Baramulla district and address a religious gathering there today on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida (the last Friday in the month of Ramzan).

According to the sources, the authorities informed the firebrand leader at 0600 hrs this morning that he has been placed under house arrest.
