Burning issues dominate folk songs in GNDU fest for women

Amritsar, Oct 12 (UNI) Burning issues affecting women side-lined the contemporary marriage themes and matrimonial tiffs in the four-day Zonal Youth Festival for Girls (A-Zone) of the Guru Nanak Dev University, which opened here today.

The Folk dancers highlighted the problems of drug addiction, alcoholism and female foeticide along with tiffs between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and popular customs and traditions of Punjabi marriages.

More than 1000 girl-students from different affiliated colleges located in the districts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Tarn Taran are participating in various items of Music, Dance, Fine Arts and Theatre.

Today the competitions in Giddha, Mime, Mimicry, Histrionics and One Act Play, were organized in Dashmesh Auditorium while in the Sangat Hall of Guru Nanak Bhawan Auditorium, the competitions in Rangoli, Phulkari, Flower Arrangement (Fresh) and Flower Arrangement (Dry) were held.
