BJP opposes formation of panel on 'Sachar Committee' report

Kozhikode, Oct 12 (UNI) Expressing strong resentment over formation of a special panel by the Kerala Government to study and implement the 'Sachar Committee' report on reservation in minorities, the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala today said it would go on an agitation against the move.

Talking to newspersons here, party state unit Vice-President V Muraleedharan said the formation of the Committee headed by Local Self-Governance Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty by the CPI (M)-led Government was aimed at appeasing the Muslim community in the state.

Accusing the party of following the policy adopted by the UPA Government at the Centre, he said decision of the CPI (M) to convene a on the report was also part of its continued efforts to ensure minority communities support in the state.

Calling for a roll-back on the decision, he said granting reservation to Muslims cannot be justified as they were no longer backward as far as health, development and education were concerned, he added.
