Alert cops prevent flare-up at Alvida-ki-Namaz in Varanasi

Varanasi, Oct 12 (UNI) Security personnel helped avert a flare-up just after the Alvida-ki-Namaz at the sensitive Laat Sarai mosque here today.

In view of the ongoing tussle between the two Muslims groups for the Imamship of the mosque under the Adampura area, the district administration had stepped up security arrangements in and around the mosque, sources said.

Three companies of RAF, PAC, tear-gas, anti sabotage squads, fire brigade, over 200 policemen, and nine SHOs and SOs were deployed in and around the mosque under the supervision of three circle officers and similar number of magistrates.

Initially, ADM (City) Indra Vikram Singh and SP (City), Rajiv Malhotra were holding command of this place, but as the DM Veena Kumari Meena and SSP S B Shiradkar were also in no mood to take the matter lightly, they reached the mosque just before the commencement of namaz.
