119 of 129 old age pensioners found fraud

Bareilly, Oct 12 (UNI) An investigation into the list of old age pensioners in a village under Mirganj tehsil here revealed that 119 of 129 beneficiaries were fake.

Official sources said here today, Bareilly divisional commissioner Majid Ali had directed sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Baburam to probe alleged irregularities in old age pension scheme at Bakainia village.

A subsequent probe exposed the deviation from procedures to identify eligible candidates under the welfare scheme.

While, several people were not the resident of the village, some had died. Besides, some beneficiaries were quite well off to qualify, sources claimed.

The pension of all such 119 ineligible persons had been terminated.

Meanwhile, steps were also being taken to identify all such block development officials, lekhpals and village development officials, under whose tenure these illegal pensions were approved.
