WB to provide Rs 18,000 crore assistance to UP

Lucknow, Oct 11 (UNI) The World Bank today accepted the request made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to provide Rs 18,000 crore as financial assistance for the poverty alleviation and different projects, especially for the downtrodden living in rural areas of the state.

The WB would provide maximum assistance towards employment, road, good administration, irrigation, agriculture, urban infrastructure facilities, health, poverty alleviation, besids rural development.

The CM had called on WB Country Director Isabel M Guerrero, who is leading a delegation to UP, at her official residence and underlined that the state government was committed to providing basic facilities to all sections of society.

The state government had implemented several schemes for the betterment and welfare of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, backwards and poor people of upper casts.

Talking to a WB official, Ms Mayawati asserted that the WB should provide maximum financial assistance to UP, keeping in view the large population of the state.
