"Viduthalai Chirutha Katchi" partymen arrested

Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) The ''(Q)'' Branch Police has arrested a functionary of the ''Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi'' for his alleged links with the banned LTTE and smuggling arms to it.

After a nearly 20-day long interrogation, the DPI functionary Jayaraj Rathinam alias Vanniarasu (36) was formally arrested late last night.

The ''Q'' Branch officials said, he was also arrested on the charges of procuring a fake passport by giving Chennai address after concealing his identity that he was involved in a murder case in his native Aruppukottai village and for travelling to Sri Lanka thrice using the same.

He was produced before a court today and remanded in judicial custody.

The ''Q'' Branch police, dealing with extremist and terrorist cases, stumbled upon the involvement of Vanniarasu when a consignment containing propellers and steering wheels, used in high speed boats, were received in his name from Azlon in Norway last month that was sent by a Sri Lankan National Kokulan from Norway.
