Understand 'Act for women protection: Roberts

Visakhapatnam, Oct 11 (UNI) The District Women and Child Development Agency protection officer and Project Director A E Roberts today said there was need for thorough understanding of the Act meant for protection of women from 'domestic violence' being implemented since 2005.

Addressing the officer's meet on 'capacity building of the Child Development Project Officers (CDPO) and people's representatives on domestic violence' organised by Mahila Chetana here, he said dowry related harassments and curtailing of basic freedom of women were the main causes for violence in many families.

Even in tribal areas instances of domestic violence against women were being reported, he added.

However, on an average, 300 cases of violence against women were being reported and it showed the seriousness of the issue in our society, he added.
