Port Blair, Oct 11 (UNI) To deal with the increased occurrence of suicides and stress-related ailments in the Armed Forces, the Andaman and Nicobar Command has embarked upon an intensive programme in these remote islands.

''The course is being conducted by Andaman and Nicobar Command in two batches for the officers and Junior Commissioned Officers and have received huge response so far,'' ANC PRO Lt Commander A Vidyasagar told UNI today.

''A total of 25 officers and 30 JCO's were trained in the course by psychiatrists of INHS Dhanvantari. For the first time, a two-day counselling course for members of Defence Wives Welfare Association (DWWA) was conducted, in which 25 DWWA members were trained,'' the Lt Governor said.

With an aim to strengthen capacity-building in these remote islands in the Southern Group of the Command, they are conducting short-capsule counselling courses for units at Kamorta, Car Nicobar and Campbell Bay, the PRO informed.
