Shiv Sainiks caned

Mumbai, Oct 11 (UNI) Police resorted to a mild cane charge upon Shiv Sainiks who tried to sneak into the state secretariat here today.

The Shiv Sena women's wing had taken out a ''morcha'' to the ''Mantralaya'' from Azad Maidan to protest against the distribution of low quality wheat through the Public Distribution System (PDS).

A delegation led by Ramdas Kadam, Madhukar Sarpotdar, Diwakar Raote and Meena Kambli later called on Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil who assured that necessary orders would be issued to stop distribution of the low-quality wheat.

Mr Patil assured the delegation that allegations about kerosene adulteration would also be looked into.
