Postal Dept surpasses in RPLI Scheme

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 11 (UNI) The Department of Posts, Central Region has stood second in the country by surpassing the target in Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) Scheme, according to Post Master (Central Region) General Manager S P Rajalingam.

Talking to newspersons here today, he said the RPLI raked in Rs 619 crore against the target of Rs 575 during the year 2006-07. The department has fixed a target of Rs 1,008 crore for the current fiscal, he added.

The officials had been instructed to do a business of Rs 400 crore on a single day on October 13, in RPLI, he said.

He said there were 3,534 post offices in the region and with about 35,71,330 lakhs Savings Bank Accounts, and Recurring Deposits and other savings accounts like NSC to the tune of deposit of Rs 3,066 crore.

As part of increasing the number of Savings Bank and Recurring Depost Accounts, the department would observe 'Saving Bank Day'. On a single day, 1.25 lakhs Savings Bank Accounts would be opened throughout the region, he added.

In his address, TPA President P Soundirarajan said the Tenth International Philatelic Exibition would be held at Chennai from January two to six.
