Janata Dal (United) pays homage to Bommai

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) today condoled the death of former Karnataka chief minister and founder president of undivided Janata Dal S R Bommai, who died in Bangalore last evening after a prolonged illness.

According to a party release issued here, a condolence meeting was held in the Janata Dal (United) office, which was presided over by its president Sharad Yadav.

The members also observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect for the departed soul.

In his condolence message, Mr Yadav described Bommai as a devotee of Saint Basweshwar and follower of humanist M N Roy. The veteran leader led the party in emerging victorious when split after split threatened its survival in 1990, 1992 and 1994. It was under his stalwartship that the Janata Dal jumped back into the national scenario in 1995 and ruled the country in 1996, Mr Yadav added.

He described Bommbai as a good administrator and able leader.
