Chandigarh, Oct 11 (UNI) A modern terminal market on the pattern of Rungis Fruits and Vegetables Market of Paris is proposed to be set up near Ganaur in Sonepat district of Haryana.

The market will be a hub for marketing of fruit, flowers and vegetables and cater not only to the domestic consumers but also to the international consumers, Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha said today.

The decision in this regard was taken by Mr Chatha during a meeting with a visiting French delegation, the members of which offered their services as consultant for setting up of a modern terminal Market.

The Minister said that Ganaur would be an ideal location for the proposed market due to its close proximity to national capital Delhi.

The market, he said, would facilitate the marketers and the farmers alike for the export of fruits, flowers and vegetables.

The setting of this market would also give major fillip to diversification of crops in the state as it would provide a platform to the farmers to sell their produce at remunerative prices and earn more profit, he added.

Mr Chatha said the supply of produce for this market would be made from all corners of Haryana, Punjab Himachal Pradesh, Uttranchal, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

Hence, this market would not only be beneficial to the state farmers but also to the farmers of neighbouring states and would serve as a marketing hub of fruits, vegetables and flowers for the entire northern region.

Being adjacent to the national capital, fruits and vegetables could be transported to South India and exported to foreign countries also, he added UNI MA JS1644
