Extension in retirement age of AEC, Space Commission chiefs

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave approval for amending the law to provide for extension in services of Chairmen of the Atomic Energy Commission and the Space Commission in public interest, subject to a maximum age of 66 years.

Dr Anil Kakodkar, India's pointsman on the civil nuclear deal with the US, is the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy.

The Cabinet decision was announced by Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi.

According to sources, the amendment will enable the Government to provide for continuity of incumbents, if considered necessary in public interest, to ensure effective implementation of the programmes of vital national interest in Space Application and Atomic Energy.
