Excise officer nabbed while accepting bribe

Jalandhar, Oct 11 (UNI) Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested an Excise and Taxation Officer red-handed while accepting a bribe here.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Vigilance Bureau) Dilbagh Singh Gill while confirming the arrest said that Jalandhar-2 Excise and Taxation Officer Malkiat Singh was arrested when he was accepting a bribe of Rs 15000 from a liquor contractor.

In the complaint to the VB, the contractor alleged that the ETO picked up a worker of his company for allegedly selling liquor on the ''dry day'' on October 2 and asked for Rs 25000 as a bribe to release the worker but later agreed on Rs 15000. However, the worker had not sold the liquor on that day, he claimed.
