Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) The indefinite boycott of courts by Advocates, who were demanding action against a cop for mandhandling two lawyers, continued today, with the lawyers staging a demonstration to press their demand.

A group of advocates gathered on the Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate court premises and shouted slogans.

Members of the Madras High Court Advocates Association also staged a demonstration in the busy Parrys corner area condemning the attack on their colleagues at the Government Stanley Medical College (SMC) Hospital on October 1.

It may be recalled that advocate Madhivanan, who was riding a two-wheeler with his colleague, sustained injuries following an accident at Broadway on October 1.

They were rushed to the SMC, where they were refused immediate treatment. When the advocates questioned, they were allegedly attacked by the staff of the hospital and Head Constable Natesan, attached to the SMC outpost police station.

Since then, the advocates had been boycotting courts demanding action against the cop and the hospital staff. They also filed a petition before the High Court Chief Justice and also submitted a memorandum to Tamil Nadu PWD and Law Minister Duraimurugan, who promised to take action against the head constable.

The head constable was transferred following the incident.
