Vadodara court issues summons to Mallika for 'obscene' dance

Vadodara, Oct 10 (UNI) A city court today issued summons to Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat and the owner of J W Mariott Hotel in Mumbai for performing an ''obscene'' dance programme there on the eve of New Year in December 2006.

Vadodara First Class Judicial Magistrate P M Atodaria directed both Mallika Sherawat and the hotel owner to appear before his court in person on November 3, when the hearing on a petition filed by Baroda Bar Association (BBA) president Narendra Tiwari will be held.

The court had earlier ordered a police investigation into the actress' December 31, 2006 dance programme in the Mumbai hotel after Mr Tiwari moved Vadodara court with a criminal complaint, praying for action against the actress and the hotel owner under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.

A Vadodara police team, which recently visited Mumbai to record the statements of the duo, today submitted its report along with video clippings of the show before the court.

In his petition, Mr Tiwari contended that Mallika's dance was not only ''obscene and ugly'', but was also against the Indian culture.
