Agartala, Oct 10 (UNI) Tripura government has sought help from Assam to manage the fertiliser shortage ahead of Kharif season and proposed to go for importing urea in a rational terms.

Talking to UNI here today, state's Agriculture Minister Tapan Chakraborty said Tripura needs a total of 13,000 MT of urea for Kharif season and the current stock is about 4,000 MT, which had prompted the government to import urea from Namrup Fertiliser Company in Assam.

He said the problem multiplied following a rail bridge collapse on the Lumding-Badarpur section four months ago, which hampered the transportation of fertiliser from outside the state through rail network.

''The suspension of rail service has badly affected the supply of necessary commodities, including fertilisers to Tripura and we have planned to manage the shortage by importing through by road,'' Mr Chakraborty added.
