TN Govt urges Centre to provide 7 lakh fresh gas connections

Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government has requested the Centre to provide seven lakh new gas connections for the state government's free gas connection and gas stove distribution scheme.

State Food Minister E V Velu, accompanied by Union Information Technology Minister A Raja, called on Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and made the request as directed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, an official release here said.

Mr Velu, who called on Mr Deora in New Delhi yesterday, also requested him to appoint Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation and other Cooperative bodies as gas agents at 69 places, where there were no agents in the state.

The Petroleum Minister told the state minister that he would consider the pleas and take immediate steps, the release added.
