Teenager complains against police before women commission

Gangtok, Oct 10 (UNI) A teenage girl from Soreng in West Sikkim has approached the State Women Commission yesterday seeking immediate intervention on alleged police harassment and intimidation.

The 17-year-old girl, with the help of some Opposition parties, had filed the complaint against the Soreng police.

The SWC sources told UNI here today that Saraswati Subba had complained that the officer-in-charge of the police station have been frequently visiting her house at night and threatening her family without any apparent reason.

The commission also informed that a case has been registered against the officer and soon a date for hearing would be fixed after elections.

State Police DIG (Range) Akshay Sachdeva said the Soreng Sub- Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) had been entrusted to file a report on the complaints after which proper action would be initiated.
