SP MP Atiq Ahmed retreats to Human Rights Commission

Allahabad, Oct 10 (UNI) Samajwadi Party controversial MP Atiq Ahmed has approached the Human Rights Commission and accused the city police of ''harassing'' him on the directions of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in Uttar Pradesh.

On the Commission's order, ADG (Human Rights) has directed SSP, Allahabad, to submit its report after a one-month probe into the MP's allegations.

A declared absconder with a cash reward of Rs 10,000, Atiq took this step after several criminal cases were filed against him.

The MP from Phoolpur constituency had written a letter to the Commission, alleging on directions of the Mayawati government, the city police is ''harassing'' him and his life was in danger.

Atiq is the prime accused in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal's assassination case.
