Second Ultra Mega Power Project for Orissa : Shinde

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today announced another 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project for Orissa to be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 16,000 crore with coal imported from abroad.

Mr Shinde, who inaugurated the NTPC-sponsored Centers for 'Diabetic eye diseases', 'Sight enhancement' and 'Eye traumas center' at L V Prasad Eye Institute here, told newsmen that he had discussed the second project with Orissa Chief Minister Navin Patnaik and he had agreed to the proposal.

The Centre had already sanctioned 4,000 MW Ultra Mega Power Project in the tribal-dominated Sundargarh district but the work for the mega power project was yet to be taken up.

The Union Minister said already nine such Ultra Mega Power project had been taken up in the country and two of them had started power generation.

The second Ultra Mega Power Project in Orissa would be based on the coastal coal to be imported from foreign countries, Mr Shinde said. He, however, refused to divulge the details of the project and its location.
