Punjab Mandi Board welcomes hike in wheat and paddy MSP
Moga, Oct 10 (UNI) Bharti Kissan Union (L) chief and Punjab Mandi Board chairman Ajmer Singh Lakhowal today welcomed the decision of increase in wheat MSP annonced by the Centre from Rs 750 to 1000 per quintal of common variety and superior quality paddy to Rs 725 per quintal.
However, Lakhowal said that the increase in the MSP is not commensurate in view of increasing price index. He appealed to the Prime Minister and Union Food Minister for the increase of MSP of both wheat and paddy to Rs 1240 per quintal and Rs 918 per quintal respectively.
Lakhowal also requested to the prime Minister for the waiving of Rs 24,000 crore of Punjab farmers loans and further directions to banks and financial institutions advancing loan to the farmers at the rate of 4 per cent.
