Promulgate Ordinance to amend Bonus Act: Vaiko

Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to promulgate an Ordinance to make necessary amendments in Bonus Act to remove the ceiling.

In a letter to Dr Singh, a copy of which was released to the press here, he said since the Deepavali festival was approaching, it might not be possible to introduce a Bill to this effect in Parliament before the festival and suggested the promulgation of an Ordinance.

He also recalled the demand by the party that the current ceiling for bonus of Rs 3,500 and the ceiling for bonus calculation of Rs 2,500 be removed and the Bonus Ceiling Act amended.

While welcoming the Centre's announcement to raise the ceiling upto Rs 10,000, Mr Vaiko also wanted that his demand should be fulfilled.
