Chennai, Oct 10 (UNI) Advocates, who were agitating for the last one week demanding action against a cop for allegedly mandhandling two lawyers, today attempted to burn an effigy of the Chennai City Police Commissioner Nanjil Kumaran for not taking action against the errant cop.

The advocates, led by Kapilan gathered at the Egmore Metropolitan Magistrate Court premises, brought the effigy and doused it with kerosene. When they attempted to burn it, police, after a verbal duel, managed to seize it.

Meanwhile, continuing their agitation, members of the Madras High Court Advocates Association staged a road roko agitation on the busy Parrys Corner area at the Government Stanley Medical College (SMC) Hospital.

Traffic on the busy stretch was affected for some time.

It may be recalled that advocate Madhivanan, who was riding a two-wheeler with his colleague, sustained injuries following an accident at Broadway on October one.

They were rushed to the SMC (Stanley Medical College and Hospitals) where they were refused immediate treatment. When the advocates questioned, they were allegedly attacked by the hospital staff and Head Constable Natesan, attached to the SMC outpost police station.

Since then, the advocates had been boycotting courts demanding action against the cop and the hospital staff. They have also filed a petition before the High Court Chief Justice A P Shah and also submitted a memorandum to Tamil Nadu PWD and Law Minister Duraimurugan, who promised to take action against the head constable.

The head constable was transferred following the incident.
