Mumbai, Oct 10 (UNI) The Konkan Railways will observe October 14 as a ''Rememberance Day'' in memory of those lobourers who lost their lives during the construction of one of the greatest marvels of engineering.

''On the day, a wreath will be placed at the memorial by Konkan Railway managing director Anurag Mishra and a two-minute silence will be observed. The RPF contingent will pay homage through 'Shok Shastra' and carry out 'Shahid-Divas' parade,'' a KR official said.

Konkan Railway has constructed a ''Shram Shakti Smarak'' in front of Ratnagiri Station in memory of these persons. The memorial is made of black granite with the names of all these persons etched on it. A book titled ''Smruti Pushp'', containing names of these persons and details of how they lost their lives, has also been published by KR.

Konkan Railway passes through the most difficult terrain and has faced natural challenges right from its construction phase. The railway line could be successfully constructed due to sheer grit and perseverance of all those involved with it. Many men and women, including labourers and KR personnel, lost their lives during the construction of the railway line and some on duty during the operations phase.
