Farmers agitate over collapse in Onion prices

Hubli, Oct 10 (UNI) Hundreds of farmers staged Rasta Roko near Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in between twin city of Hubli-Dharwad in protest against sharp fall in the prices of Onion today.

Vehicular traffic was disrupted for more than four hours following the agitation.

Onion prices which ranged between 300 to 1200 yesterday had fallen to Rs 50 to Rs 600 today. Enraged over this sudden fall farmers who had brought Onion to the market staged Rasta Roko.

Due to heavy rain this year, Onion was available at only certain packet and supply was not that adequate and Farmers were expecting better prices. Following today's collapse in price they were upset and shouted slogans against APMC officials.

Senior Police officials, including from Revenue department, rushed to the spot and persuaded the farmers to withdraw their agitation.
