Take steps to minimise agricultural loss to crops: HGCS

Shimla, Oct 9 (UNI) The Kheti Bachao Sangharsh Samiti of the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HGVS) today called upon the state government to take steps to minimise agricultural losses to farmers.

In its state convention on ''Kheti Bachao Abhiayan'' held here, the samiti has decided to hold a conference in every assembly sections of the state in which it would invite every political party to clear its stand on the issue of wild animal menace.

Addressing mediapersons after the convention, HGVS president Kuldeep Tanwar welcomed the state government's decision to ploy watch and wards in the wild animals hit areas under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) and empanel exservicemen in the hunting teams and to start two more sterilization centres at Gopalpur and Mandi.

He said the samiti would mobilize the farmers across the state against this wild animal menace campaign by sending various Jathas in the villages of menace hit areas.

''The government should ease the process of making licenses to the culling of wild animals and should make effort to expedite the scientific culling of these animals,'' he said, adding that while culling of these wild animals, ecology balance should also be maintained.

Mr Tanwar said the Samiti would also make pressures on the central government to have permanent solution to the problem.
