Students demand special status for Hyderabad-Karnataka Region

Gulbarga, Oct 9 (UNI) Students of various colleges and schools staged a demonstration here, demanding amendment to Article 371 of the Constitution conferring special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, the most backward area in the State.

The demonstration was organised by the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI), in association with Hyderabad-Karnataka Praja Samithi (HKPS) as part of its mass awareness programme.

Accusing successive Governments both at the Centre and the State of neglecting the region, the HKPS leaders alleged that 'step-motherly attitude was being meted out to the region.

HKCCI president Umakanth Nigudgi, who led the demonstration, addressing the gathering, demanded that the State Government implemented Mulki rules, which was in practice even now in Andhra Pradesh.
