Lakhs of dead fish washed ashore

Surat, Oct 9 (UNI) Lakhs of dead fish have been washed ashore at Dumas over the past few days but the cause behind the deaths are yet unclear.

The dead fish have been washed ashore at least on three occasions over the past 20 days.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) here had taken samples of the water and also carried away dead fish for the purpose of conducting tests. The results of the tests would come in a few days, according to FSL assistant director N Thakkar.

Water samples were tested by the VNSGU Biotechnology Department also, and as per its findings, the water was toxic and showed presence of chemicals. A team from Gandhinagar is also here to investigate the matter.
