Gujjars ST reservation demand be taken up by NIC: Raje

Jaipur, Oct 9(UNI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today said the Gujjars agitation for ST status is an inter-state issue to be addressed by the Prime Minsiter at the antional level, and demanded that the centre convene a meeting of the Chief Ministers of the concerned states to find a solution.

The Chief Minister, in an address to the people of the state on Doordarshan, pointed out that the issue is not confined to a perticular state or concerned to a political party but an inter-state issue which has to be addressed a the central level. She demanded that the issue be included in the standing committee of the National Integration Council for discussion.

Ms Raje said the state government had convened an all party meeting to form a consensus on the issue. ''The governemnt invites an open discussion on the issue and invites suggestion from all quarters to find an amicable solution,'' She added.

The Chief Minister said the state is on a growth trajectory and the last thing the state need is a bad name in the form of frequent disruption caused by agitations posing a threat to peace and harmony in the state.
