Ancient temple burgled, idols worth one cr stolen

Pratapgarh, Oct 9 (UNI) Masked burglars stormed into an ancient Ram Janaki Temple in Aaspur Devsara area here and decamped with 'ashtadhatu' idols of Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman, estimated over Rs one crore in the international market.

The theft took place at village Gunipur-Vishnuganj, where unidentified miscreants broke into the temple on Sunday night and flew the coop with the antique idols.

The incident came to light after temple priest Hausla Prasad Tiwari went for the 'Mangala Arti' yesterday morning.

Irked over the incident, the traders of Ramganj Bazar put down their shutters.

Meanwhile, a case had been registered and four teams were constituted to work out the crime, police said.
