Cash, jewels missing from co-op society locker

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 8 (UNI) As much as 2.5 kg gold ornaments worth about Rs 25 lakh and Rs 17,000 were found missing under mysterious circumstances from the Manapparai Primary Agriculture Producers Cooperative Society at Manapparai, near here, today.

According to police, a passerby noticed huge smoke emanating from the building and informed the authorities concerned.

The police opened the door, they found the place enguled in fire and all records damaged.

The steel locker containing the jewellery was removed to a safer place. The cash and jewellery were missing. However, the locker had neither been broken nor opened.

Three employees including Society Secretary Gopalakrishnan were taken into custody for questioning.
