8 killed, 14 injured in Rajkot

Rajkot, Oct 8 (UNI) At least eight persons were killed and 14 others were injured in two separate road accidents in Saurashtra region last night.

In the first incident, two persons were killed and six others were injured when a State Transport Roadways Bus bumped into a tree while taking a sharp turn near Sardhar, about 50 km from here, on the Rajkot-Bhavnagar highway.

The victims were returning to Botad after attending a Brahm Sammelan here. The injured were rushed to the Rajkot civil hospital, sources said.

The deceased have been identified as Babubhai Madhak and Muna Balwantbhai Joshi.

In the second incident, six persons were killed and eight others were injured when a private bus collided head-on with a tractor near Manavadar in Junagadh district.

The injured were rushed to the Junagadh hospital, where three of them are stated to be in serious condition, sources added.

Those killed include three women, an infant girl, Barbi and a seven-year-old girl, Nehal, sources informed.
