Madurai, Oct 7 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of Sri Lankan National Warnakulasuriya Canicius Fernando by a security guard in front of the Madurai Central Prison on Friday.

Official sources said here today a Revenue Divisional Officer(RDO) probe had already been ordered into the incident. The report was yet to be submitted to the government.

However, since there was a need for a full-fledged inquiry into the incident as the deceased was a foreign national, the government had ordered magisterial probe and necessary action would be taken against the policeman based on the magisterial report.

The district administration had sent a preliminary report to the state government in this regard, the sources added.

A human rights organisation, 'Evidence,' had appealed to the state Government to distribute a grant of Rs ten lakh to the family of the victim.

Meanwhile, 'Peoples Watch' demanded severe action against Central Prison Superintendent and other officials on duty on the fateful day and to register murder case against D Devaraj, the sentry who shot dead Fernando.

Meanwhile, the Madurai Central Prison Administration had scaled up security in and around the prison in the aftermath of the incident.

Armed guards were posted at the entrance and additional personnel with self-loading rifles manning the watch towers. Patrolling in and around the prison complex was also been intensified.
