Sonia assures farmers of bonus on paddy

Jharli, Jhajjar, Oct 7 (UNI) UPA Chiarperson, Mrs.Sonia Gandhi today assured the farmers that the Union Government was sensitive to their problems and would soon announce a bonus on purchase of paddy over the MSP of Rs 675 per quintal.

She also gave an assurance on increasing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat.

Ms Gandhi gave this assurance while addressing a 'Bijli rally' in this village of Jhajjar district following a demand by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Earlier she laid the foundation stone of Indira Gandhi Super Power Plant to be constructed at a cost of about Rs 8000 crore.

During his speech at the rally, Mr Hooda had urged Ms Gandhi to given bonus on purchase of paddy. He had also put forward the demand to increase the MSP of wheat to Rs 1100 per quintal.

Ms Gandhi said that last year too the Central Government had extended help to the farmers in purchase of their produce at a remunerative price.
