Junior Engineer suspended for use of sub-standard material in J&K

Srinagar, Oct 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has suspended a Junior Engineer (JE) and stopped the payment to contractor for using sub-standard material for blacktopping of roads in the down town city.

The suspension order against JE was issued on the directions of Minister for Roads and Buildings Gulchain Singh Charak, after he found sub-standard material used for blacktopping on the two lanes of Bishamber Nagar Nowpora, during his visit to different parts of the city.

He also directed Chief Engineer to reject the blacktopping of these two lanes and ordered that no payment should be made for this work.

During the visit to Dargah Hazratbal, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Mohammad, he directed the Chief Engineer to immediately improve roads leading to shrine within two days, keeping in view the rush of the devotees during up coming festivals.

At Ganthal Harwan, Mr Charak directed Managing Director JKPCC to complete Asian Development Bank funded Ganthal bridge over Muloori nallah by the end of December this year.

The 18 feet steel bridge is being constructed at a cost of Rs 77 lakh.

Mr Charak during his inspection of the upgradation work of road from Zathiyar to Old Nishat road, informed that Rs 2. 50 lakh was spent for restoration of LAWDA cut and Rs 1.50 lakh for upgradation of the road.
