Gram panchayat polls: Heavy turnout in Kolhapur Dist

Kolhapur, Oct 7 (UNI) A heavy turnout was recorded to the election of 372 gram panchayats in the district today.

About 80 to 90 per cent voters exercised their franchise for the 372 gram panchayat elections.

Of the total 478 gram panchayats in the district, candidates from 106 gram panchayats were declared unopposed earlier. The polling for the remaining 372 gram panchayats took place today.

In sensitive Kagal tehsil, one group boycotted the voting process at village Boravade over reported bogus voting by rival group, sources said, adding, the concerned group met election officer and demanded re-election there.

Besides this, complaints about bogus voting were also reported from few other places. However, the elections were by and large peaceful, district election sources said.
