Azad meets Arjun, demands two central universities for J&K

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today met Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh and urged him to declare one university each in Kashmir and Jammu as Central varsities.

''Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent visit to Jammu had announced that one university each in Jammu and Kashmir would be declared as Central University... it is important to accord this status to two universities in the State,'' he said.

Mr Azad stressed on providing funds for construction of college buildings at Bijbihara, Uri, Billawar and Ramban which have already been made functional.

The colleges have been sanctioned by the Central government but no funds had been released so far.

The Minister assured Mr Azad that the money for construction of buildings of the four colleges would be released shortly.
