Army jawan and militant killed in central Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 7 (UNI) A soldier and a militant were killed in a fierce encounter in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, a police spokesman said.

He said troops of 24 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Barwal Thune, under Kangan police station.

During the operation, militants opened fire. The fire was returned and in the fierce gun battle a soldier and a militant were killed and two other jawans injured. The injured were hospitalised, he said.
