Army jawan and 2 militant killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 7 (UNI) A soldier and two militants were killed in a joint operation while security forces recovered arms and ammunition in the Kashmir valley since last evening, an official spokesman said.

He said troops of 24 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched the joint operation at village Barwal Thune, under Kangan police station.

During the operation, militants opened fire. The fire was retaiated by torce and in the fierce gunbattle one soldier and a militant were killed and two other jawans injured. The injured were hospitalised, he said.

The spokesman said security forces shot dead another militant during an encounter at Liser Dangiwacha village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and recovered an AK assault rifle, one wireless set, one UBGL, one UBGL thrower, three UBGL grenades, three magazines and 168 rounds from the encounter site.
